• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hi guys,
Just got my new 8.5-25x50 Leupold from Premier Reticles w/Range compensating dots for my AIII 7mmMag! I would like to put a set of old SAKO Rings on this set-up. My question is, did SAKO make 50mm rings and if they did, does anybody have a set for sale or know of a set?If SAKO did not make a Ring for a 50mm what would you recommend? I have had a set of Leupold mounts and rings on this gun for 20+years and have not touched the adjustments on it, but the rear mount hangs into the bolt a half-inch,it has never gotten in my way, just looks like it is going to fall off. Thanks, Jim

There are also bases and rings for Sako rifles made by Talley, Burris, and if money is no object, the finest of all are made by Conetrol. "Custum" Conetrol bases and rings in 30mm, will probably set you back close to $200.00, but they are works of art. https://www.conetrol.com/

I just ordered a set of Sako Optilock low rings, and according to Sako's own web site, they will accommodate a scope with an objective lens of up to 56mm on a rifle with a sporter barrel. The objective on my scope is 42mm, and according to my math, it will have at least 7mm of clearance. I wish it was just a bit lower, but it will give the option of putting a bigger scope on it if need be.

Dear Rick,
Thanks for the info on the rings, as Mac has informed me, the scope I have has a 30mm tube, so the rings I need cannot be the regular 1" rings. Are the old SAKO rings you have 1" or 30mm, and if they are the 30mm are they for sale or do you know where I can get my hands on a set?

Thanks,

Jim

Dear Mac,
I got on the Conetrol website to order a set of the mounts and rings, but was a little unsure of the model I should order. Can you help me out?

Thanks ,

Jim

Jim, I would suggest that you call Conetrol with your rifle and scope info to be sure you get the right rings. If you wanted 30mm Gunnur model medium rings, the stock number would be 50G3. The stock number of the high rings is 70G3. The 30mm low rings are 3mm above the bases, the mediums are 5mm above the bases and the high rings are 7mm above the bases.

Conetrol offers a tip on their stock number page to help you pick the right size:

(Helpful Hint: An easy way to determine how high to mount a scope on your gun is to use the shank of a drill bit as a gauge. Lay the drill bit across the highest part of the rifle action and lay the scope tube on it, holding the scope level with the bore-line of your barrel. The diameter of the drill bit that puts the scope where you want it is the total height needed; just add the height of the base [usually 7/32"] to the height of the ring you choose to arrive at this total height.)

Rick,
I recently purchased a L-579 Forester Varmint in .243 Win. Went to the range last week and the Forester put 3 rounds of Remington 75gr. accutip-V boat tail`s inside 1/2" @ 100 yds. from a hot barrel. Great gun!! However, I used a set of Redfield bases with 1" high rings that I took off of my 30-06 Sako Finnbear. The problem is that the rear base extends about 3/4" over the magazine and makes loading somewhat difficult. When I get back to northen Nevada the Forester will be my new coyote rifle and I feel that original high, one inch Sako rings would solve the problem with the feeding. These would be the same rings you have on your Forester and Leupold.Would you know where I could purchase these rings or any other brand of rings that would duplicate the original Sako`s.

Thank you and the SCC for any help with my problem.-James Swidryk

I find it a lot better to get a head shot and hang the deer with rope around
the neck ,cut around neck, chest feet and arms put a rock in cape and tie a
rope around rock and bumpet of truck or 4 wheeler and a beautiful skinning
with almost no hair
