• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I believe our founder not too long ago explored the possibility of someone he knew being able to reproduce the old waffle type recoil pad. Did anything ever come from that effort? Has there ever been a poll to get an idea of the numbers our group may wish to purchase? I know I could use (5) now and I suspect there would be hundreds more that others would wish to purchase provided the cost would be within reason. What do you think? Or is this not worth pursuing, Jim

Gunner!
I am still working on it but "my man in Finland" has been unreachable for quite some time now! Just a few days ago I sent a letter to him by snail mail and I hope to get an answer ASAP!
I have found one company so far that has the knowledge to make repro pads but there are two major issues here.
One is the cost for making the tools which will be expensive and therefore make the pads expensive.
Another issue is using the Sako logo w/o permission.
There are other issues as well but these are the major ones. Hopefully I will get some positive response but I havenxB4t got the highest hopes for this to happen.
Anyways! I am on it and I will get back as soon as I possibly can. I am away half the year, because of my job and IxB4m also in the process of purchasing a (too) big house so I have a lot to do right now. ThatxB4s why I have been a bit invisible lately!
I know there is a huge market for different parts (pads, hoods, screws for mounts etc) and I am doing what I can to find good quality replacements!
A poll would be great! I know you guys need MANY pads but it could be helpful for me when I discuss this with different companies. So just use this thread and post how many you need!!
I also want to know how much you all would consider to be a fair price?? It is no problem to make them I just want to be able to make them at a good price.
I may have some positive news about other parts coming up, but IxB4ll keep that to myself for a little longer.

Jim, Thanks for your reply. I know that there must be many problems that could come up in such an endeavor and I really appreciate your hard work on this site . Thanks again and I hope you are successful.

Jim

I need two, Jim and I need three sight hoods. I also need to be 40 yrs. old again so work on that since we know you just live for us and Sako.

-Mike Ps. I think 50 US would be about right for the Garcia Pads to early Stoeger and about 55 US for the Pre Garcias (1968 on back) Sight hood prices about 25% more than current prices for remingtons and winchesters.

Jim -

About 6 months ago I spent about 1 1/2 hrs on the phone to Pachmayer working my way up the ladder trying to interest them in making replacement pads. My thought was that they knew a bit about making recoil pads, and that at one time did make a pad under license from Sako. Guess I didn't talk to the right person as I couldn't drum up even mild interest. A shame, because I'm pretty sure they could sell thousands of them.

In my mind what they might sell for would depend on exactly what they could deliver. If it was an exact duplicate, right down to the correct era Sako logo, color, spacer and all, but with improved rubber, I think it's value would be close to a hundred bucks for many. For $100 I would expect it to be indistinguishable from an original pad, except maybe for feel. If it was unbranded, or slightly different in some respects then Mike's pricing seems fair.

Seems like it would likely need to be the grind-to-fit type as it appears there's enough butt variation to preclude any one or two size fitting all.

Best luck, Dick

I want one too! If ya's have any luck sign me up for one. But lemme know before hand so I can set some money aside..
