• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hey Admin's,
I would like to know what the parameters and/or guidelines here on the forum are for identifying everything from outright B.S. to uneducated mistakes in order to protect a potential buyer on the, "For Sale" section here on the SCC Forum. I have seen several advertised "mistakes" that were obvious, yet there were no corrections posted by any long-time members, which could have led to someone just getting into Sako's to have been mislead. There is one I would like to address as I post, but dare not. Please advise.
Regards, Will

You can use the PM system, Will. If someone asks for help with a sale item for pricing or what have you, then they leave themselves open for discussion. I haven't seen anything for sale on this Forum that was "out of line".Just some very obvious flaws and some high prices. I don't think that it is necessary to comment in an unfavorable way on a for sale ad or any ad unless it is opened up by the person placing the ad. After the ad is shown the PM system needs to go into effect. There is no need to go public with it. Also- If you could give me a few examples of the "mistakes with no corrections" , with the PM system. I will take it up with the others and try to ease that situation.-Misako

Misako,

Are you referring to something such as your recent post on Sept. 20th about the Finnwolf that the gentlemen placed for sale. He never asked for your opinion or help on why his rifle was not selling, but you decided on commenting "I also agree that what is holding that rifle back for a smooth sale is the face to face requirement. As for walking on the thread--- nonsense!" This seems to be a complete contradiction to the statement that you just replied to Will. He did not leave himself "open for discussion" as you say as he only listed an item for sale, then the post went in another direction on downgrading his rifle. This is when an admin such as yourself should have stepped in. You can't have guidelines on posts for admins, but banish others from commenting in the same fashion.

Will, Mike and all other members!
This is a Collectors Club and, for me, it is imperative to help each other!
That is the essence of this forum! That is what we do here!
My hat goes off to all of you for doing so and for making this forum such a great place!!
But we already have rules for posting in the For Sale/Wanted/For Trade sections!
Link to these rules: https://sakocollectors.lefora.com/2...f-advice-on-posting-in-the-for-salewan/#post0
Among other things:

"AFTER YOUxB4VE POSTED!

When another member sees a post in this section and has something to offer or maybe wants, he/she can then post a short message in reply, that he/she is interested or have the item(s) asked for. Then the original poster MUST answer him/her through the Personal Message system. Messages can be found in the bar on the top right hand side.

Please keep these threads clean from other posts! This will make the Forum easier to follow and view."

So if you are interested in anything listed here, contact the seller through the PM system!

However! If someone sees a flagrant misrepresentation, a bogus listing or other disturbing items, AGAIN, you MUST use the PM system! Either directly to the member in question or to me or the admins.

Comments in a thread, about an item, no matter how well meaning, will be removed!

BUT! This is not the place for neighbourhood policing! Each member is responsible for his/her own posts in the end and each member has to make sure, he/she know what he/she is buying! Caveat Emptor! Buyers beware!

So! Get in the know!!

Use the search function here, or ask questions in the appropriate section. Use Google and try to find out for yourself before you buy! If the deal seems to good to be true, it probably is! If you get a feeling that something is a bit fishy, it probably is!

In regards to this, I will add a new "rule" when it comes to listings in the For Sale section. Any seller MUST offer a 3 day inspection period!! Period!

And let me remind you all! You must set an asking price! No exceptions!

Let me also take this opportunity to stress this out! Any flagrant abuse of our Club, in any way, will cause repercussions!!

I wish you all a Happy Halloween!

Trick or Treat!?:smile1:

Sakochief- I agree with your opinion. That thread was what caused considerable thought on my part as what I had done to create bad feelings, and also gave rise as to how I could help avoid this in the future. I honestly got caught up in the interest in the "REP" and it had been awhile since the thread originated. Nobody will tell you I am flawless when it comes to being an administrator. I also don't feel compelled to put up with "snarky" on this forum. So-- if it gets too "personal" it will probably disappear. The PM system is great. If you have a sensitive situation, you can run it past an individual on there and avoid embarrasing them or grandstanding. Since we are all humans, perfect is out of the question , but we can be cognisant that we are always a work in progress and hope to do better next time.-Misako

This is a great site with VERY helpful folks, I for one would hate to see it go !! We as the users need to realize we pay no one for this service and for the ADMINS to do this for us ought to get our gratitude!

Just my 2 cents - so from myself I appreciate all you guys for your assistance

Mike,

I really appreciate your dedication to making this sight a better place to "hang out" & share information. That particular thread bothered me as well, so I'm glad that we can get some future potential issues out in the open and addressed. It is obvious that we have some great members & fantastic admins, so lets work together and keep up the good work.-Sakochief

Jim (L61R),
Thanks for reminding us of the post regarding posting For Sale items and other rules of the forum. No one is on duty here 24/7 to monitor these items and no one on the site has come forward claiming to be a certified appraiser. Aside from that - no one knows :"everything" about every model of Sako. Admins are just like anyone else on the site and have their "opinions" about certain models of rifles we are familiar with. To assert that we should provide "protection" for "potential buyer's here on the forum" is just plain ludicrous.
Jim said it best - read the rules. We don't slap everyone around because they make errors. We make them, too. And just for the record, I don't sit here 24/7 being the personal editor for posts made by other grown adults. If you are buying something, PM the seller and ask your questions there.
I also don't think you have to inform the world that you sent someone a PM. Just send it. They'll get it.
No apologies or excuses are required from anyone outside of for just plain blatant ignorant behavior. So let's get over it and get the forum on track. If you want to make a suggestion to an Admin or the boss, do it in a PM. Most likely, over 90% of members don't care what you have to say. Don't waste their opportunity to use the forum. If you are drunk - don't post "snarky" crap. Even if you are sober.
I thank all the members for helping this site grow and have the opportunities to obtain more information to "ponder" about Sakos as well as the valuable input and questions you provide. The posts are great. Keep it up.
Thanks,
S-A
