• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

1st time poster to this forum. I recently inherited a Sako AV from my brother in law, (was his favorite). I took it out to the range this weekend and impressed myself with the groupings! I took the bolt out for cleaning and I can not get the bolt to go back in. I am familiar with bolts on Rem. 700 but for the life of me, this has me stumped. Anyone familiar with this gun or this problem please advise.

I have done this, bolt slides to within 1 inch of closed and then stops, No problems at range, or with ejecting spent casing; all seemed very smooth until I cleaned and tried to replace bolt.

RWC- Is it posssible that you have decocked the bolt while it was being cleaned? This is something many on the forums have done and it can be frustrating getting it back in correctly and it also takes a bit of hand strength. My best suggestion would be to go to the "manual downloads" under web links (right side of the page. If you can't get it---- take it to a competent smith or someone that knows Sakos enough to help. Good Luck, Mike

Mike, decocked it was. Was able to rotate the rear cocking mechanism and it slid in like it knew where it was going. I tried looking at the manuals but could not find one for the AV. Thank you so much for your assistance. I had spent the better part of the afternoon trying to get the bolt back in. Again many thanks!

RWC- Correct me if I am wrong but I think the A2 A3 and AV all look very much and work very much the same other than sizes. I commend you on your mechanical aptitude- getting it recocked and back in. Happened to me nearly 50 yrs ago with my first sako and I sweat blood getting it to go. Those lessons you don't soon forget. Regards, Mike

Terry- Welcome to the Sako Forums. Sounds like you had an adventure with your bolt and things worked out OK for you. What model were you working with? BTW- If you are tempted to turn any screws on the back of the bolt--- Don't, until you loosen the tiny set screw in the bottom of the cocking indicator. Then you can turn the screw in back without ruining the threads on the firing pin. That screw should be left alone anyway, because it adjusts the depth of the pin and if it fires good and doesn't cause grief, it is set where it needs to be.- Misako

Mike- Thanks for the heads-up on the screw at the back of the bolt...I wondered what it was. BTW, I responded to your PM and haven't heard back from you...Bill.
