• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I'm new to the forum, so I hope I'm asking there questions in the right place. I just bought a pre-72 Finnebear 30-06 through Gunbrokers. I'd like to get a sling and peep sight before the rifle arrives. Problem is I don't know the width of the sling swivel and I'm not sure what peep sight will work with the Finnbear. I want to buy the military sling from Cabela's and a Williams peep, but I'm looking for specs and suggestions. Thanks in advance for advice.

There were two sizes of swivels on the Finnbear and the Foresters but I know that a military sling will work with either size. About 1" plus inside for the small and about 1.25 inside for the large. Peep site can be a Sako but I know nothing about the aftermarket sights. Best, Misako

I have sent the email to nimrodrx.

Thanks very much to everyone who helped me.

I hope to collect a few other shootable Sako's over the year. I'll likley look for a smaller caliber, like a 243 next. Are the auctions sites like GunBrokers, GunsAmerica, and GunsInternational genreally the best places to look?

I occasionally buy a Sako off of an auction site, but for the most part the guns are priced substantially above market. I really don't understand this, just as I don't understand someone starting a gun at zero and placing an unknown reserve price on it. If someone wants to sell a gun, they should simply start it at the minimum price they are willing to take and go from there. That way the potential buyers know they aren't wasting their time on a gun that has a reserve far above what they are willing to give.

But I digress: You have to watch for Sakos anywhere and everywhere -- local newspaper classifieds, local "for sale" websites, web gun auctions, and sometimes (but rarely) gun shows. By far the finest rifles at the best prices for me have come from individuals I've come across. They may have checked with a dealer or a pawn shop and received a low-ball offer. As an end user, you can offer them a fair price that is advantageous to both of you.
