• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hello
Can anyone recommend an S/S or Alu one-piece Weaver/Picatinny type rail for a short action(A1) Sako 75?
All my scope mounts are for Weaver bases and Im a bit loathed to go investing in new Warnes or Optilocks. Would some of the one-peice rails for short actions of other makes be suitable or at least easily adapted? I dont have any local gunshops/dealers to ask, nor easy access to other models to compare sizes and spacings, and I dont want to keep pestering Brownells with my inane low $ value questions. My reciever isnt tapped so I'm open to suggestions to make something work.
Thanks
Zeb

Zeb- I have a set of Sako rail mts that fit the sako dovetail bases. The only scope I have that will work with them is a 4X weaver that is older than dirt. This isn't something that is cherished so let me know if that might help you.-Regards, Mike

Hi. I had a sim ilar problem with an old BRNO MOD2. My solution, after months of searching was to buy an AK 47 flat weaver rail and drill and tap it on to the top of the reciever. Being aluminium I was able to machine out a nice cut where the ejection port is. It also blued up a treat! I change between a 6 power scope and a red dot. This was aperfect solution for me, and cheap. The BRNO reciever is very generous in width, 5/8 instead of 3/8 .22 dove tails.

Weaver made a two piece dovetail adaptor, but it was an ugly P.O.S. that was highly unworthy of a Sako action. Besides, placing that adapter or a Picatinny rail on top of a Sako raises the rings to an undesirable height.

IF some of your Weaver-type rings are the Millett Angle-loc rings, you can get a neat little adapter base and extended "claws" to replace the standard claws that adapt the Millett rings very neatly to the Sako dovetail. I have them on several Sakos, including the .338 I took to Africa last month, and they have given me excellent service.

That said, I would be reluctant to use anything other than the neat Leupold ringmounts on any Sako I was mounting from "scratch" today. I have several of these mounts, including one on a .375 H&H;, and they are neat, clean, trouble-free, and can be had in the proper height for any scope.

Thanks guys, that was a lot more help and advice than I was expecting.
My only issue is that living here in very rural Ireland my choice of supplier for anything 'odd' or specific really needs to be online and that just leaves Brownells who will ship outside the US. Here and the UK I'm met with puzzled looks and then loads of suggestions which involve repetitons of the word 'Optilock'. Ill get back to Brownells and either go for a flat rail I can then modify or consider investing in several Leopolds.
Thanks heaps
Z
