• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hi Everybody

I have just found the site [where have I been??]and this is my first posting.

I have the above Sako in .308 with Macmillan edge tech stock and I am looking to put the above rail on it. I was wondering if anyone else has been down this road and able to advise me on any pitfalls.

Cheers

Steve,
I too am thinking of dropping a Forester 308 with the slimmer contour pre-Garcia Bofors barrel in a McMillian Edge (the Garcia barrels have a heavier contour). What vintage is your rifle and was the barrel contour a factor when you placed your order? What model Mcmillian did you decide on? I'm leaning towards the Sako Hunter because it has the very narrow forend.

Steve,
Welcome to the forum. Very nice combo you have in the works. There's nothing wrong with a picatinny rail if you do a lot of diverse shooting. It will allow you to open up your range of optics and use quality rings up to 35 mm. You can also get ones with different MOA angles; 20; 25; 30 (like on the TRG-42) to allow your optics to stretch their range and enhance your distance shooting.
Would I put one on a safe queen - no. But a set-up like you have provides a lot of possibilities.

Hi guys
Answering some of your questions......"sakotex" you just can't beat a Picatinny for durability and versatility, swapping scopes and keeping zero is part of it. Being able to customise your rifle and tailor it to your own personal needs is utmost I.M.O. and they look cool!
"poconojack".... barrel contour was not a factor. I have the edge classic and it will take up to #5 contour I have a #2. My seriel no. on the L579 is 305357 so it puts me between 1974 and 77 I think.
"sala-ampuja" you got it! I am in the process of getting the Burris XTR Xtreme tactical in low and 1" to compliment my Leupold 1-5 with custom reticle. I am hoping I won't gain any height on my medium sako rings on the original receiver. Nor any weight the rail is alloy and so are the rings.
The trigger is an original sako and breaks like glass at 1.5lbs. "would I put one on a safe queen?" what is that??????
It is near perfect a rig for my mountain hunting and the way I hunt, but still a little nervous going into the picitinny bit with the rings...to be expected I suppose.
Cheers guys

Sounds like a plan, Steve. Which brand picatinny are you using, and will you have to drill and tap the Sako dovetails to attach the picatinny?

Yeah Bill I expect so maybe also some marine epoxy as well. I don't want this baby moving on me. I haven't got the details yet as I am still awaiting the rings and scope from the U.S. [Leupold holding me up with the custom reticle. Been with them eight weeks and counting- not a happy bunny]

Again not sure on the piccatinny only know it will be alloy. Will keep you posted
