• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

P72 scope bases

Hello all

Quick question regarding P72 scope bases. I have an opportunity to buy a nice P72 .22 and it has rimfire dovetail type bases installed on it as well as open sights. My questions is this-did these rifles come with those baes installed on the rifle from the factory? Or did they come in the box with these guns from the factory? Or lastly are these an aftermarket base someone installed on the gun after they bought it? If they are factory what size .22 rings fit this rail type base? Thanks for any help. I am trying to learn a bit about these rifles and it is my guess that these bases came on the rifle from the factory.

I have a M78 wich is just an updated P72 more or less and all the P72, M72,M78 I have seen here in Canada came originally with a 3/8" 11mm dovetail mounts from the factory, weather they were installed by the factory or just came in the box I am unsure. The front base has 2 crews to secure it and the rear base has 3 screws to secure this base to the reciever, they sit very low on the action and any 3/8" scope ring works fine on them. I seen alot of the guns imported to the states have a weaver type bases on alot of the guns offered for sale there. There is really no reference material on Sako rifles period. Sako's have been imported into Canada longer than the USA so we see alot of differrent special run stuff up here, but other than my friend who has been a Sako dealer since the mid 1970's I have no real reference on these guns other than observation of alot of rifles that have been threw my hands ,as I help out at a local gunshop.take care Dale in Canada

The P-72 (and successor P-75 and M-78) came with a tip-off type base. It is slightly narrower than the American rimfire base and some rimfire rings may not squeeze small enough to grip it. I had to use a small bushing in order to utilize Leupold rings. Millett rimfire rings adjust smaller, so they are perfect for use with the P-72 bases.

I have an M-78 that has had the tip-off bases replaced with Weaver-style cross lock bases. This works just fine and provides a slightly stronger mount if that is something you desire.

I use alot of Millet and Burris rings on European 11mm groved recievers and bases with no problems up here in Canada , must be hard to find tip off Weavers for these guns though? Take care Dale in Canada

I use adjustable chimmed Milletts on my match p72, I like to have a little adjustment at my fingertips since the mounts are american lol peace
