• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

What are the height dimensions of the original Sako mounts from the bottom of the ring to the flat on the dovetail.

I know they are designated as low, med and high, but I need the actual dimension.

I want to mount a 4.5 -14 X 40MM leupold on an old (60's) Vixen in .222 Magnum and need to know which mount will work.

The set that came with the gun measures .283 and doesn't give me the clearence I need.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Rick-The mediums (Sako Vintage split rings) measure .32- Those "should" work. It doesn't sound like the ones you have are Sakos. - Best, Mike

Thanks for the info. The mounts I have are Sako's. They are stamped Sako on one side and Finland on the other. My measurement may not be exact since there is an undercut on the flat where the mount sits on the receiver that is directly in line with the lowest point of the ring where the scope would sit.

I think I'll find a better way to measure it to make sure I'm measuring it to where the mount would sit on top of the receiver. This would add a little bit to the dimension I previously got.

Thanks for your help.

Rick is your Vixen a sporter or HB ? Are you having clearance problems with the barrel or bolt handle? Dick

Rick- I believe Hayseed may be on to something I haven't considered. A heavy barrel may cause some problems. The measurement I get for Sako lows" is about .12 and I remeasured the medium rings and get .31----I don't have a set of highs so someone may wish to lend a hand with that measurement.-Misako

Thanks for the replies guys. The gun is the sporter version and the problem is interference with the barrel at the objective end of the scope.

The bolt clears the scope , but not by very much.

Rick -

Sako lists their original ring heigths at 3/32", 5/16", and 15/32". Understand that with the little dish milled out it makes measurement of the flat surfaced kind of a guessing game. It's pretty clear though that you've got the mediums. If you want to stick with the same rings guess you'll have to spring for a set of highs.

The 4 1/2 - 14 x 40 I have uses the side turret knob for parallax adjustment and the objective bell measures about 1.84" outside. Is it possible yours has the adjustment on the bell?

Dick

I was looking at it last night and you're right, it's the focusing ring at the objective end that's causing the problem since it's larger in diameter than the diameter of the objective end. Guess I'll have to go with the highs or use a different scope.

Thanks for the actual dimensions. I'll keep them for future reference.

Rick

From the inside bottom of the ring to the top of the base:
low = 3/32"
medium = 5/16"
high = 15/32'
That is what is on the original boxes.
