• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hello to all.

I had the 308s out to play today and thought I would snap a couple of pictures to share.

From top to bottom:
VL63
L579 Carbine
L579 Deluxe
L579 Standard
L57 Standard

All complete and original aside from the butt pad on the carbine.

*Last picture is a Tikka 595 Master Sporter, CZ 557, and CZ 550 Full Stock (all in 308).

Thanks for looking. PXL_20210222_025425146.jpg PXL_20210222_025411659.jpg PXL_20210222_025211249.jpg

I had the three 308 finnwolfs out the other day, never thought about mating them up with my deluxe and sporter in 308 as well.

What's the barrel length on that "L579 carbine"? Looks like a full-length rifle to me. A carbine is 19-20" while a full-length rifle would measure 23.5". Also, it either has a custom stock or the extremely rare one-piece factory stock. Here's a photo of an L579 with a 23.5" barrel and the more usual 2-piece stock.

Excellent observation, Icebear!
It is most definitely a 23.5 barrel. This is the only full stock Sako that I own, so I did not have one on hand for comparison. The stock appears to be original to me (aside from the buttpad). Here are some more pics for consideration.

Here are some pics of the stock without the metal. There is a "J" stamped in the barrel. channel. PXL_20210225_021042912.jpg PXL_20210225_021053912.jpg PXL_20210225_021102892.jpg PXL_20210225_021111093.jpg PXL_20210225_021134426.jpg PXL_20210225_021157878.jpg

Update /correction. Barrel is just shy of 23", not 23.5".
How is that measured - to the bolt face or to the front ring? The official, ATF-approved measurement of barrel length is to drop a dowel down the barrel and measure the distance from the muzzle to the bolt face. Measuring a 23.5" barrel from the front ring would give a bit under 23".

Looking at that stock, I am not sure if it is original or custom, On the one hand, it has a proper Sako muzzle cap. Custom stocks typically have a muzzle cap that does not surround the muzzle, as does a Sako cap. On the other hand, Sako generally put a crossbolt in a .308 Forester, but not in a .243. I am uncertain as to the meaning of the stamped "J". The finish appears to be oil rather than the typical Sako high-gloss varnish (as on my rifle, shown in the photo). Checkering does look like Sako factory. One-piece Mannlicher stocks are super rare but not unknown. If it's a custom, it's a very close copy of the shape and checkering of an original, complete with a correct nose cap. I'm leaning toward original (except for the pad) but I will defer to the experts if anyone else wants to chime in here. I seem to recall there are a couple of members who have Foresters with one-piece Mannlicher stocks; perhaps someone will post a photo for comparison.
