• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hi All,

I stumbled across the below auction on GB and figured I'd try and glean some knowledge from y'all. Looks like an early L579 with the flat bolt handle, straight lines on the cocking piece and magazine release within the trigger guard. What confuses me is the stock. While the recoil pad is obviously aftermarket, is the stock? I had thought one piece mannlicher stocks only came on 23" "long-barelled" mannlichers but, this particular gun has a 20" barrel. Thoughts?

Check out what I found on GunBroker.com!

Stock is definitely a replacement. If it had the original stock it would be a real prize.

I wonder how a gun dealer can know that a 60-ish year-old gun with a replacement stock is a "one owner"? Not that it matters, since I care much more about the actual condition of the gun than how many people might have owned it in the past.

Actually, not a bad looking piece, if you don't object to semi-custom rifles. Looks like it might be a Fajen stock with that high Monte Carlo cheekpiece, and the checkering job looks OK. For the number of pictures posted, they are remarkably repetitive and uninformative. Still, if it goes for the opening bid or not much more, maybe not a bad deal. People have been asking outrageous sums of money for L579 carbines on GB (and not getting any bids).
