• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

If you are here to just sell a rifle - or 15 - this is not Gun Broker. Please take it there.
NOT putting your location in the signature section of your profile may yield the same result.
There is nothing here that is not in the Terms & Conditions for Membership that you agreed to by signing up to for forum membership. If your post is gone, then there is a reason for it.

Noticed a rash of newbees lately that seem obsessed with "value". I just give them basic info on the gun, model, year, history, etc. in the hopes that they have a genuine interest. If they are truly interested in Sakos they can research the archives of the forum & educate themselves about our passion & the "value" will be evident. If they stick around, Great! If they only have a few posts I don't give any info related to value or prices as it is impossible to value a rifle from one post and a couple pics. Good idea to make them post it in the for sale section & quit using our forum as a sale barn. I think I'll be a little more tight lipped when I see a new post that is focused on "value". Thanks for staying on top of things S-A.

Yes I must admit its getting alittle out of control and I have been trying to help the problem "no more" its easy to do your own research.

An excellent response gentlemen, well worded, mature and fair.

One of the reasons I really enjoy this forum, thanks guys!!

Cheers

A week or two ago I got a PM from a new member who said he was an FFL and had been consigned a couple of Sakos by a terminally ill friend and was looking for info and values. He sounded legit, so I told him he needed to send photos and please keep the file size down. So he sends me 25 megs. I was kind of annoyed but looked at the pictures, ID'd one of the rifles as a custom, and gave him rough, broad value ranges. Never heard from him again, not even a brief thank-you. I don't think I'll be responding to any more such messages.

Stopped being a free appraisal service long ago. No good deed goes unpunished, as they say!
