• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

New member/New Guns, looking for info

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Good morning from Alaska. I’ve recently come across two Sako rifles that were passed to me from my late grandfather. He loved Sako rifles and pretty much only owned the L691’s. The two I received are model L691’s chambered in the 300 win mag and 416 rem mag. They seemed to be customized from the standard rifle and have a muzzle break and engraved trigger guards. Does anyone have any info on these models concerning the customizations? Didn’t know if this has a different model name, if it came from the manufacturer this way or if it’s all aftermarket additions? Thanks!

Your rifles are Deluxe grade Sako Finnbears (the "Finnbear" name may not be anywhere on the rifle, but that name was applied to all of the long action Sakos.) The engraved floorplate, skipline checkering, contrasting grip cap and fore end are factory enhancements over the standard grade. The muzzle brakes are not factory and are something your grandfather probably had added to reduce recoil. The brakes also increase muzzle blast, so be sure to wear ear protection when shooting them. And congratulations of a fine inheritance.

Really appreciate the info Stonecreek. It is a beautiful gun but unfortunately I’m probably going to sell the 300 win mag. It would be my third 300 WM and using it here in AK would just destroy it.

Pretty wood on those deluxes. Interesting brakes as well. Are those forward cuts functional or decorative? I cant tell if they allow for gas escape. PS, nice glass too. Your grandpa had great taste. My condolences.

Gowyo - Thanks. Yea my grandfather was big on hunting with top end gear. Also, I’m pretty sure the slits on the brake are just decorative. I don’t have the gun sitting here with me but I don’t remember the cuts being deep enough. I’ll have to double check now because I’m curious.
