• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

First Sako for me.
I recently purchased this as new unfired l691 in 270 win. I had to wipe off the packing grease on the bolt.
Happy customer here. Paid 650.00, I think I did ok?

Thanks,
Now I'm looking for some rings to go with it.
Thinking of Talley two pc. steels and wondering if they will work?

Badger,
That's a very nice rifle you have come across. A lot of poeple talk rings on the forum and generally consider it a good place to find someone who knows someone else who knows another person, so it's quite likely you may find what you need from here to gain some perspective on what you end up using. Are you looking for one inch, or 30mm ? As far as ring height, you'll need to consider the objective lens of the scope position to the barrel to be sure you get that objective as close to the barrel as you can.Your .270 might be worth looking into the present day optilocks that attach directly to the dove-tails. Forget the bases and then rings on top of that. They direct bolt right to the dove tail and have two screws on each side of the ring. Think about how you will be shooting and how you want to present the rifle; the get the job done, the "it's all original" mode. or the wow factor. I've tried Leupolds and didn't care for them because there is only on screw on each side of the ring. Some people like the Talleys and I do have a set on a .22WM. But That doesn't see any heavy action,
I'm sure you know all this already, so try hanging out here on the forum with your line in the water and you'll hook a set when it comes by Also, put a post in the WANTED section
Good luck

sa,
I checked out what you were saying and yes I have to agree.
Super thanks for the input.
I will putting on Sako Optilock ring-mounts on. One piece.
Where are you guys buying yours?

Badger,
I got mine from Accuflite, but paid a little too much. You can find them at https://www.tjgeneralstore.com/ cheaper than I paid for mine. I was caught off-guard while making another purchase. I put the low ones on my .375 H&H L61R. Just makes me feel better to have the four screws per ring vs. the two. Especially on that rifle. You can also Google Brownells, Midway, Midwest, SWFA, et.al. to search prices. You can even get them through Optics Planet.
I'm quite sure I'll be buying more of this type and replacing the Optilocks I have with the separate bases.
Glad to be of some help. That's what the forum is all about.
Thanks,
S-A

Badger,
I just happen to have $675 burning a hole in my pocket in case you would like to make a little money on the deal:wink2: Seriously, that is a beautiful rifle, the buttstock doesn't rise up like the monte carlo stock on my L691. Is that a Safari or European model? Enjoy it

Thanks!
And no it's not for sale, it's a keeper and I am going to shoot it. Sako's were made to be shot.
I could not tell you what model it is. I'm really new to Sako's and am still learning much about them
thanks to this forum.
I hope it's not my last one.

That's a Sako Classic.....I have an AV version in 30-06 that's pretty much mint....I really like the Sako Classic stock....

great find and a great price....
