• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hi from Montana from a new guy to the forum. I have lurked around here a bit and have found that most here have forgotten more about Sakos than I will ever learn, so pardon the ignorant questions I will no doubt ask. I will try to contribute as I can, but for now please allow me use my introductory post to simply wish all here a Merry Christmas!

blueduck, welcome to our group of Sako lovers. You may find it useful to start thinking of all the reasons you need to aquire that first or next Sako.We all have a bag full of tricks for explaining to others why we really have to have the next one.You will find helpful and friendly folks here.Jim

blueduck,
Likewise. Glad to have you on board. Just fire away with anything Sako related that's on your mind.
Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Thank you for the kind words. The Sako bug already has his fangs into me pretty deep, I currently own 4 and intend to build a custom as soon as I can find the right rifle or action. I have a hard time tearing a perfectly good Sako apart for a project, though.

Blueduck- Why would you want to use a "perfectly bad" Sako for a custom?

blueduck,
If you are going to venture forth with a custom, it may as well be on a Sako action. This is something you should think long and hard about before doing since the investment will most likely be quite substantial, and such "personalized" rifles may not yield the $$ you put into it down the line if you should want to sell it.
You can get a lot of good advice on the forum once you establish a starting point, which to me is the round itself, and my expected shooting goals after the build. A custom is a great project.
Good luck,

Thanks for the comments. Several of the guys I work with and I shoot 1000 yard stuff, mostly with high end 700's.....(surgeon, g a precision others of that ilk). I plan to build something along the lines of a 6XC or .243 on a Sako. This isnt my first foray into custom guns, and as mentioned, you never make money on these deals!.............(mostly I just waste way too much money on guns, but like I tell my wife, I dont go to the bars, I dont chase women or go to Vegas with the boys, I do this...........which works for her because she knows where I am and what I am up to!) I am looking for a 57, 579 or an A2 onto which I will put a stainless fluted bbl and fit into a Mcmillan Sako varmint model stock. I dont want a full blown F class gun, I have a couple of those..........more of a dual purpose long range/medium game rifle that is I can carry. If I go the .243 route, I may use an AV so that I can seat those long bullets waaaaay out and still function through the mag. These are my abbreviated thoughts, always appreciate advice!

blueduck,
Sounds good. I've mentioned before that I am doing a custom with one of the new Model 85 M actions. I have selected the 6.5x284 for this one. PM me sometime once you get started.
I think there is still an action in the For Sale section. Did you see that? An L57.

Welcome blueduck. Where in MT? Good info on this site.

I'm a new guy again also for some reason. I had to re-register after being a member for about 5 years. Not sure what happened to my old registration.

Ron,
Good for you. We can compare pictures down the road. Mine is going to take a while, though. I am replacing the scope on my TRG 42, and am going to use that Zeiss on my custom. So, at this time, I have a handle on the action, barrel, scope, scope and mounts. Thinking of a Kevlar stock, but haven't seen one that really gets me excited, yet.
Glad you have the connections to import.
Thanks for sharing.
