• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Got my new forester in today and wanted thoroughly clean it. I turned the shroud portion out of the bolt body to expose the firing pin assembly. I've cleaned it and everything looks to be in order. Problem is I can't get the darn shroud to turn back in place. HELP! What am I missing?

First- immobilize the front bolt lugs in a heavily padded vise. Have the back of the bolt sticking up. Align the little ear with the reciever cut and push and then twist. Set up the bolt guide and reinsert the bolt in the receiver. I will take some pictures and try to help you out if this doesn't work. I usually do this with heavy gloves and no vise, but I understand what you are up against.-Misako

Ok so I can see what you mean but I'm unable to compress the shroud and turn the damn thing. It's really tough to compress it. Any tips without a vice?

Do you have access to some heavy leather work gloves? If you have a vise and some soft wood (pine) you can place the bolt in the vise without mangling it.- Best I can do for tips. Don't worry about taking it to a smith to have it done. You will not be the first. I undid my first sako bolt (L579) 50 yrs. ago and never forgot it. L57s are easy to do along with the L46s. After that, they can be a bitch.-Misako

This has turned out to be a real pain. I've found a set of gloves, far from
Heavy leather, and have been able to compress it with my thumbs. I find myself running out of hands cause even though it's compressed I can't turn it at the same time. Damn I need a vice.

A tiny bit of gun oil in the right spot can be helpful. Try not to turn it too far if you get it started.-Misako
