• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Mounting trouble with my Nightforce scope on my Finnlight

Good day. I have been a member now for 6 months and have found this forum to be very helpful. Now about my little problem. I have a SAKO 85 Finnlight in 7mm Rem Mag and recently bought a new Nightforce NXS 5.5x22x50 with a NPR2 reticle. Now I know this scope is not particularly the best suited to my hunting rifle, but I love it too much to not use it. My problem is mounting the scope to the rifle. I have used SAKO optilock's, but did not have a lot a elevation adjustment left. Also have put some Burris Zee rings with 20MOA inserts on and don't like them. Have anybody got suggestions for me on what I can use? Lastly I am not too keen to drill and tap my rifle.

Ps: I know you don't need that much adjustment for hunting, but it is fun shooting at rock's at distances outside my capability.

Thanks

I have a set of Leupold highs on my TRG-S, with a 46mm ao scope, leaving approx. 3/16th or better between the barrel. Leupy's are strong and easy to set, and they have a super-high ring-mount as well, Opti-loks are very nice but they are as high as giraffe nuts!-Bloo

I think Kiwi's problem is that he wants more elevation for zeroing at extended ranges (like 1000 yards?) I assume with "normal" mounts he is running out of internal scope adjustment before reaching the desired zero.

To accomplish this requires the scope to tilt downward compared to the axis of the barrel. Some "tactical" (an overused word these days if ever there were one) mounts have vertical adjustments similar to many "regular" mounts that have horizontal adjustments to allow the shooter to zero a scope for extended ranges by either elevating the rear mount or lowering the front mount.

My suggestion would be to use a mount without a plastic bushing and simply place a thin metal bushing or bushings (strips cut from an aluminum soda can, for example) on the lower half of the rear ring underneath the scope tube. This will provide the tilt needed to zero at extened yardages.

yeah your right stonecreek, I just hold over, its how I learned to shoot...With the TRG-s of mine, I can hold dead on out to 400 yrds, sited in 3' high at 100 yrds so I'm told, Max PBR, I'll test this out when the weather fairs up a bit-Bloo

Thanks for all the replies. I was hoping there was a rail that will fit without the need to drill and tap. When i mounted the scope the first time there was only 29 min left. It was a shame when the scope have 100. I have mix and matched two sets of optilocks (just the bases) I had and it seem there will be lots of elevation left. The problem is I like the Nightforce far to much not to have it on my main hunting rifle. I had a leupold VX 3 4.5x14x40 on the rifle, but that have now moved onto my 222 Sako Hunter and it works like dream. Thanks again.
