• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Does anyone have a model 85 lam. stainless varmint in.308. I am looking to purchase one and would like to no how it performs and any issues about them. THANKS

340Wby: I have the 85 Varmint Laminated Stainless although not in 308 Win. I have the rifle in the little brother caliber to the 308, 243 Win. The rifle is my most accurate Sako and shoots 1/4 inch groups at 100 yards and shoots everything well. The standard trigger pull is outstanding and the wide forend stock is very stable and provides a great rest and platform. The single set mode provides a trigger pull of about 8 ounces which is perfect for precision shooting. The magazine feeds well and the look of the brown laminated stock has really grown on me in addition to being tough and a great choice for all weather conditions. The heavy stainless fluted barrel is not for everyone but I really like it. This is a hefty rifle so not one you would want to take on a mountain sheep or mule deer hunt but not unbearably so. My rifle with optics weighs about 10 1/2 lbs. I have a Swarovski Z5 3.5-18 on this rifle and feel like it is up to any task. Hope this helps. Also, I posted some pictures of the rifle a couple of weeks ago here if you want to look up that older post.

340Wby: In the interest of full disclosure I should add one more thing. The chamber on this rifle is cut very tight and it took me some time to work up an appropriate load that was not creating too much pressure. My pressures were rising very quickly and as such it might not be a good choice if you are not a handloader. Most commercial ammo is loaded pretty hot and that could create a challenge for this rifle. If you are a handloader, then there should no problem.
