• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I've been watching a Sako Hunter in 7-08 on GB. The owner says it is an MIII action gun. What action is this? Is it a 75? I asked if it was an A2, and he said it is marked MIII. I really don't know much about the newer guns, although it looks alot like my A-series Hunter Lightweights. The owner says it is not a 75, but I don't know. If anyone could tell me, thanks in advance.

If it is the Sako on GB that has the Nikon scope attached, then we are talking the same gun.

From what I can tell from the picture, the gun looks like it is based on the Sako M591 action, which were made for a few years after the A2 series and before the 75 series. I think it is a M591 due to the style of the bolt release button on the side of the receiver and the apparent contour of the trigger, which is actually a Tikka trigger assembly, not the Sako #4 trigger assembly which was typically standard on the A2 action. The stocks are NOT interchangeable between the A2 and M591 actions

The action should say M591 or 591 on it, so really no question should exist. Anyway, the 7mm-08 in my opinion, is the best of the mid action calibers.

Dave,
That is the one. The 491, 591 and 691s are rare around here. What is your opinion on that series? The 7-08 is also not very popular around here, for no good reason other than the 270 is king. The owner told me twice it is marked MIII, and gave no other info, other than it wasn't a 75 or A Series.

Besides the trigger, the big difference between the A series and the 491, 591, 691 series is the way the front of the action is machined. The A series is rounded whereas the 91's are squared off. This, as well as the trigger, was a cost savings initiative (less machining) by Sako. In fact, the 75 is similar to the 91' series in that the front of the action where it meets the action is squared off. The downside is the 91's are heavier in a place where you don't want the weight, but they will also be more rigid.

Personally, I already have A2 rifles and an A2 NIB action, so I would not want a 591. The stocks and many parts are not interchangeable and the trigger may have a different feel. But, if I already had a 591, I would consider another. 7mm-08 in the A2 or 591 is very tough to find. I would like to see close up picture of the receiver marked MIII. Maybe it is not a 591, but it sure looks like one.

The .270 may be king, and I have one and love it, but if I have to carry the rifle a ways and hold it at the ready, the weight difference between the mid and long actions becomes noticable. In this case, I reach for my A2 action 7mm-08.
