• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Medium Action Variations information

Hello All!

I've been reading and learning for a while, and it's great to find a site with such knowledge and expertise. I finally have some questions. I have two M591 rifles and know the recoil lug is not integral on these. I am in search of a medium action for a custom build, and would like to have an integral recoil lug from and accuracy standpoint. I also want the safety to control the trigger, and not the bolt as on some models. Do the L579 or A11 actions have an integral recoil lug? Is there anything else I should know about the actions before I proceed? Is there a semi-reliable source for these actions anymore, or should I continue to shop the guns for sale sites for a donor rifle?

Any and all information and advice is very much appreciated.

Rick

The L-579 and A-II are essentially identical functionally and both use an integral recoil lug on the bottom side of the front receiver ring like most Mauser-type turnbolts. However, I don't know of any reason that the L591 with its bolted-on recoil lug can't be just as accurate.

At any rate, if you want to use an L-579 or A-II as the basis of a custom gun (I would prefer those actions, also) you'll have to find a donor rifle since neither of these has been made since the 1980's. Every now and then you'll find someone who has an original, unused Sako action put away, but it is rare. Besides, you can almost always find a donor rifle for less money than an action alone and sell the barrel and/or stock to recoupe some of your costs.
