• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Seems like all the L579 and A II mannlichers I've seen are carbines. Were any made (or imported to USA) with the 23" barrel? If yes, as a general rule, is there any accuracy difference between the two designs? Thanks.

Bill,
I was surprised to see a long-barreled mannlicher for sale online awhile back. I can't remember which site--GB maybe? I had never even heard of such a variant prior to that. Must be very very rare.

I did find some data provided by a member in this section that seems to indicate that a few were made, and fewer were imported to USA...

I did locate a 308 mannlicher with a 23" barrel and it's winging its way in my direction. I don't know if these are rare or not, but this is the 1st one I've come across.

Not super rare, but harder to find than one in carbine that's for sure. General rule is that the early L46/L469 and L57s had full length barrels in the full stock models. Whereas the L461/L579/L61 and the A-guns had the shorter carbine length barrels.

The roles are reversed for the two in rareity. The early guns with short barrels and the later guns with the long barrels are the hard finds. If you find a full stock L469 with the short barrel, buy it ! It is super rare. I've never seen a short barreled L57 in full stock, so that has to be rare too, if they ever made them.

Sounds like a great .308 Mannlicher. Enjoy !

dg-
Thanks for the info. The 308 is supposedly "very good". We'll see...If you do come across an L469 Mannlicher carbine please let me know. I definitely NEED one of those to round out my L469 collection.

Deergoose:
I learned that Sako modified some of the L46's to handle the longer 222 mag without adding the 9 to the model designation for awhile but have never seen one personally. I assume they must be fairly rare, especially in the HB configuration. If you ever run across 2 again, save one for me! I have a original Sako HB for a L46 in 222 Rem. If you or if you know a L46 collector who has a need for it PM me.

dg- I understand the appeal.
paulson- Sorry I didn't think to let you see my L46 222Mag sporter while you were here. That will give you some incentive to make a return visit.
