• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I have an out of the box SAKO M78 22LR and can't find any info, value or discussion of any kind pertaining to the LR version. I have had it for about 30 years and am considering selling it. This isn't the right category but the best place I could find.

sciguy,
Don't worry, you'll get some conversation on your rifle. There is a place under the FORUM tab on the home page for things for sale, buy, or trade. I suggest you get some pictures ready to upload. If you want a couple of honest opinions on this era rifle, I would contact members Hayseed51, or Stonecreek. I'm thinking you will hear something soon.
Good Luck,

Hi Sciguy -

I'm sure no expert - the only Sako rimfire I have is a homely little P46 SS... However, as with any other Sako, value is closely tied to precise condition and the particular piece of wood your rifle might carry. Also, if you might have an extra clip, it would add quite a bite to your rifle's worth. Original box and papers have value to some, but not to others.

Believe your M78 (P78) was made from '78 to about '86. Last MSRP appears to be about $650. What you might best do is spend some time looking at Gunbroker in the 'completed auctions', and pay close attention to the condition of sold rifles. Be very honest in the evaluation of your rifle's condition. Few things tick off a buyer more than unrealistic representation of condition. Good high quality pics may be your best tool. Best not to pay too much attention to asking prices on GB - many guns are priced way too high, and have been listed for months, or even years without interest.

Without any idea of your M78s condition, I would suggest cleaning it thoroughly before taking pics. I'm often amazed at how filthy some advertised guns are.

Best of luck, Dick
