• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Left-hand 591/691?

I'm about to put down final payment on a very nice left-hand Sako in .308. The barrel is not terribly long (can't be more than 22") and it looks almost brand-new. It has a nice wood Monte Carlo stock with rubber buttplate and comes with a serviceable 4x scope. It is either a model 591 or 691 (can't remember). It has had one previous owner who shot it very little (because he had too many other guns, not because he disliked this one).

I'm happy with the price I paid for it, but I'm just curious what members would consider a good price for such a rifle? It's my first centerfire rifle, by the way. Any info on when it might have been manufactured, etc. would be much appreciated.

How do the 591s/691s measure up against the current models?

Minor edit to my above post: the barrel might be 23.5" which seems to be "standard" (?) but overall the "feel" of the rifle is such that it seems very handy and compact, which may have led me to think it had a 22" barrel.

I have two M 591's. One in 243 Win. and the other in 22/250 Rem. If I could find more I would buy them. They are the most accurate rifles I own and the workmanship on these guns beats Win., Rem., Savage and most the others. I've got just under two thousand rounds through both and they are still shooting tight little groups. Can't remember what I paid but if I could find a used one for around 400 to 500 bucks I'd buy them. Gary

Well, that's what I call an enthusiastic recommendation! I had no hesitation about buying this rifle to begin with, but your comments are really confirming that I made the right choice. Thanks, Gary!
