• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hey Troops,
I am new to Sako and to this forum...but after reviewing it I am impressed with the quality of the discussions here. Glad I found you.
I have a L61R (Finnbear) in .270, quite old and in good shape. The problem is that I am missing the windage screws from the rear scope base. Many have commented in other threads that the original base/rings are preferable...so I don't want to replace the setup. Can anyone give me some direction on finding a set of windage screws or making some?
Thanks.

Are these Sako Ring mounts? Or the Redfield bases with the windage screws on the rear base that holds the rear ring in place? Grizz.

stickle- The older Sako ringmounts have integral threaded posts that are a part of the lower section of the mount. If you are missing a windage screw, the mounts are likely something other than Sako. A picture may be in order for us to help. Regards, Mike

Hey Grizzlyone and misako50...thanks for getting back to me.
The rings below look just like those on my Finnbear. (I don't have a camera to take a pic...sorry). These were on ebay as Sako rings so I just assumed that was the case. Are these the Redfields? Can I get the screws for them? What ya think?
Thanks again.

Stickle- There are many that state they are sako rings but they are "for" sako. I am not aware of a place to buy parts for the rings. Possibly, someone on a forum may have a rear base that is boogered and useless, and the screw could be salvaged. I have a set that are in decent shape you may have for 13.50 shipped. They are bases only.- Mike

Stickle -

In following your thread, it appears your intention was to set the rifle up 'original'. While many did use the turn-in Redfield type, like pictured, back in the day, they are not original Sako mounts. You may want to scare up a set of Sako original ringmounts in the appropriate heigth. You would then have the correct mount set-up, plus windage adjustment that stays put in both the front and rear... You should be able to pick up a set of mediums in decent shape for $50-75 (lows - less, highs - more). Just make sure the slots in the cap screws aren't all dicked up.

While millions are apparently happy with the turn in front, windage rear setup made by Redfield, Leupold, et all, I'm not such a big fan. Won't go into the reasons, and do still have the set-up on some rifles, and will likely let them be. However, I won't use the turn-in/windage on anything else going forward.

B-Square has made replacement windage screws - allen drive. I've got a set you can have if you decide to go that way. I also have a set of Redfield bases that I pulled off a L-61 that have the original slotted drive. I'll send you either/both, if you decide to go that way - drop me your addy by the private message function at the top of the page...

Hey guy,

Wow, the help I have been given is tremendous!!! I have gotten great advice, information and even the offer of some spare parts! What a great bunch you have here.

Someone is sending me some parts to see if that fixes my issues.

To everyone on this forum thanks. You are a class act.

Man, I had just what you needed but just sold it all in a "grab-bag" of used scope rings, bases, parts, etc... Sorry I didn't see your post sooner.
