• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I had the L61R 458 Win Mag out today and desided to take a couple of pictures. You would not believe how well this rifle shoots. It has a Leupold Vari X III 1.5-5 with Sako high rings. I believe the stock to be a McMillan but not 100% sure. It has the Mercury Recoil Reducers installed in the stock. The kick to this gun is equal to a 12 gauge. Not nearly as much as my .375's.

emmerth,
That looks like the scope I have on my .375H&H. I have the illuminated German #4 on it. My .460 should be in by Tuesday. I ordered a Schmidt&Bender 1.5X6X42 (30 mm) today for that one. When you are down this way, bring your .458 and we can go out in the boonies and pop some alligators! :wink2: If it were only legal.:angel2: We could even shoot them from my front porch. There's a couple 6 footers that like to sun themselves in a pond by the golf course across the street.
Anyway, that's a beautiful rifle you have there. Talk to you soon.

Hi Emmerth,

Same experience here. - A retired SAKO- stockmaker made me a Sako .458 years ago. Looks like a Safari grade without the rib. - It shoots any ammunition from 480gr to 510gr as a bench rest rifle.

Leupold 1,5-5 is perfect on this rifle.

Hey Emmerth,
Is your receiver finish kinda rough like mine? I posted a recent and detailed description of mine. Do ours match?
Regards, Will

Will,

The finish on my receiver is completely smooth and shinny but the bluing does not match 100% with the barrel .

So do you have a L61R and a AV in 458?

Hey emmerth,
Mine is fairly smooth and not what I would call shinny. When I stated rough, I meant it is not the high polish like pre-72's. More like the model 72 where you can actually see the horizontal machining lines and feel them across the grain with a fingernail. The bluing and luster on the barrel is almost a match for my pre-72 receivers though. I only have the L61R. Did you check and see if yours has the Stoeger stamp?
Regards, Will
