• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I recently acquired a Finnbear L61R, Bofors Steel. It has a 4-digit serial #. Any idea when this might have been made?

nafyobwoc,
Welcome to the forum.
Early to mid- '60's I'd guess. They stopped the Bofors stamp in approx 1967-68.

Thanks very much. It has S/N 38XX, does that help narrow it down? I couldn't tell from looking at the Sako site.

nafy- can I call you nafy?:bigsmile3: Sako serial numeration hops around like a horny toad when you get down to it, but with a 4 digit no. as low as yours, I'd say 62-64 is as close as you can figure, in addition to this, it is still in the "early" period of L61R history, these guns are famous for their carry ease and pointability, and then on top of that is the Bofors Stamp, which to some means everything! Welcome and enjoy the forums!-Bloo

nafyobwoc.
Just checked our hang tag data base. The earliest one in there was #28xxx - December, 1970. this database was developed with hang tag information of rifles members own. There are others on here with low serial numbers but not an officially known production date.
Where is the serial # stamped? I thought it was on the receiver? Do you mean that you have a barreled action?

Sure, nafy works....or cowboyfan (a backwards one......never could spell very well). Thanks for the feedback.

nafyobwoc,
Sorry, my mind was back on the 22-250 barrel someone had. Is your rifle a Deluxe? Open sights or smooth barrel? Did you try the "upload files" button on the bottom of the posting section? It's on the left side. You can take pictures right off your computer.

Thanks again. Do you have a recommended load? I also have an AII in .243; I've got a load with it that will group in a dime at 200 yds. (40.5 4350, Hornady 100 gr BTSP). I'm new to 30-06 and would appreciate any info as a good starting point.

That's OK. Thanks for the feedback. No, don't believe it's a Deluxe......smooth barrel. Came with SAKO rings.

S-A, some hockey, along with a mixture of jai-lai and hacky -sack, with a hint of football....oh well, maybe someday....now back to the Sako's! ( a surefire winner in any game!)-Bloo
