• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

L61R 30-06 delux ?

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

I just bought this rifle because the wood was too beautiful to pass up. I also love 30-06 it is the quintessential old school hunting caliber. I now have questions about this gun. It is odvious to me it is a delux stock but the floor plate and trigger guard are not engraved. Can someone here tell me anything about this gun? I figure it might be a regular gun with a replacement deluxe stock. Any help is appreciated! These are the only pictures I have till it arrives.

Agreed.

Also, it appears that the front and rear sights have been removed(soldered on?? Others will know better than I.). The recoil pad has been replaced.

Note that it seems that the stock forend inletting does not match the barrel profile.

Hope this helps.

The 5 digit serial number indicates the barreled action is from fairly early in L61R production. The misfit barrel channel & the stock shape indicate the stock is probably from a Deluxe model from much later in production after Sako changed their barrel contour, possibly even from the AIII era. The aftermarket recoil pad, the ugly sight removal & the lack of floor plate engraving further confirm it is a "put together" or "bitsa" gun marketed to fool the unknowledgeable. I would not accept the rifle & find an original Sako instead, but that's just me. It's resale value is very poor, not to mention any "collectibility". Lots of nice "real" Sakos out there, so why settle for that one just because of "pretty wood".
