• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

L579 .308 standard barrel

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Tex,

The first thing someone will need to tell you the date of manufacture is the first three digits of the serial #. Does the rifle have any special features?

Members on this website are good, but not that good.

The rifle is an L579 Sako Forester Deluxe in .308 with a standard weight barrel barrel. the serial number is 597xx. It has a Bofors barrel. The stock is blonde with a rosewood? cap at the forend. the stock is cracked at the pistol grip. Any idea where I could get another Sako stock?

Thanks for the help.

Tex,

As indicated by the serial 597xx, the rifle was probably made in 1966 or 1967. Thanks to DeerGoose for the list.

Regarding a replacement stock, the only thing you can do is keep looking. I do see them in Gun List occasionally as well as on the internet. I'll sent you an e mail if I happen to see one.

There was a L57 deluxe stock for sale on this site by "oneshot". I do not know enough to determine if it could be cut for the side safety and work or not. This site is the best place to find one. Members of this site are a cut above other similar sites and you can probably count on dealing with genuine people. I can tell you horror stories about the pawn shop brokers on some of the auction sites.

[FONT=arial, helvetica]Sorry I took so long to answer back. Too many things going on right now. but I think I am catching up some.
Thanks for the Numrich lead on the L579 stock. Will check it out.
My present needs are:
One L579 standard stock for my son's rifle, which has developed a hairline crack.
I think he may have let some screws loosen up. They are tight now, but the damage is done.
One complete standard rifle, L59 or very early L579 in .303 Win. cal.in best condition available. but not N.I.B. These are easy to locate in .243 cal. in L57,
but I am having problems locating the .308.
The delux modles are a little fancy for me.
Thanks,
Bernie
