• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I just recently came across a nice Sako L57 in 308 and the only draw back that I have found being it has a Wards Westernfield barrel. I would rather have an original Sako Bofors barrel. Does anybody know where someone might find one? I have been looking on the internet and apparently its like hens teeth.

This is a rifle that I've lots of experience with. You will more than likely find it to be just as accurate as a sako barreled L57.( I realize I can be flogged for saying that) however it is true. I believe the barrel was made by High Standard and they are about the only factory L57 barrels that can be found on the net. You will also be able to buy that rifle for a good $200 less than an all Sako L57. Playing barrel swap is fine if you have tons of money to burn and little to do with your time other than to chase ghosts. If you want a nice bofors barreled rifle, buy one already complete and original. You will be way ahead of the other game. Not as much fun or as challenging, just smarter.-Misako

jd,
You have that right! When I find one you will be the second to know:bigsmile3:. Just have to keep your eye on every thread and site in the universe.
Good Luck,

I believe the Wards L57 had a "bulge" in the barrel where the rear sight is attached, much like the old Winchester Model 70s. If you replaced it with a Sako barrel (which has no bulge) you would have a gap in your stock at that point.

Tis true Stonecreek, however, the sight can be moved to the new barrel in most instances and the stock will look just fine.-Mike

I have plans for a custom stock made by a local person out of exhibition grade black walnut that was locally cut. As for the barrel looks like I will be going with a Shilen or Pac Nor. Thanks for the help.

The guy that builds them has a pretty good selection and you pick the blank that you want, so sorry I dont have any pictures YET.
