• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

First, let me say I've been lurking here for a while now, and have sure gained a lot of knowledge and insight. Thanks to you all.

I see that DeerGoose has a L57 Deluxe in the photo section. I can't ever remember seeing another, but that might not mean much. Do they command quite a bit more money than the standard grade? I appreciate whatever help you might have for me.

An L57 Deluxe in my opinion is a prized Sako possession. They just didn't make that many of them. You throw in some sight and/or barrel variants in the mix along with a rare chambering, like .244 Rem, and you could have a one of a kind rifle. Same can be said for the L46 Deluxe, although the L57 dlx is rarer. Good luck and visit us often, we can never stop talking about these guns.

there is a 57 deluxe on gb right now.
Earlier this year i got my first 46 deluxe in 222
i think i have pictures either posted or can post some

Outstanding guys - thanks a bunch. I did go ahead and make arraingements to purchase it. A .243, so not exotic there, nor does there seem to be any oddities. It's no cream-puff either, looks to have 50 years of honest wear, nothing really nasty though. The good news is it appears to be all original. Now, to scare up a set of rings and a peep for her.

I'm jacked half out of my mind in anticipation of receiving the old girl. I think she'll be a candidate for at least a stock restoration, but I'll post pics warts and all when I get her.

Yes, please do. And check for markings such as "Forester", "Bofors Steel" and what is in the grip cap. It should be either a diamond or a pine tree. you have my sympathy, you're addicted now.

good luck,
DeerGoose

Just a quick update here. Received the rifle last week, and no suprises - fairly represented. Some pitting in the bore, but not bad firecracking in the throat. The stock could really benefit from restoration, and I hope to accomplish that when life slows down this winter. Sorry, no pics at this time.

DeerGoose -

S/N is 9637
Left side of barrel is marked Forester only
Right side of barrel is marked Bofors Steel
Top of barrel stamped Sako and caliber
Left side of receiver marked L57 and s/n
Made in Finland appears neither on the barrel or action
Grip cap has the diamond
Floorplate has the deer along a fence like Daveracer's and same trigger guard engraving.

sounds all factory to me. great find. The diamond grip cap and the floorplate engraving pattern is a nice addition to a hard to find rifle. please let us know how it shoots.

PDRDM- The L57 deluxes have engraving on floorplate and triggerguard and checkering is skip checked diamond pattern on a stock with a diamond inlay in the grip cap. To get a look at some examples, just take a good long look at the pictures posted by the members on the site. Since I haven't touched the L57 del. I can't tell you if the metal is highly polished blue thruout.Other differences would include the forend and cap being made of a contrasting rosewood. Best- Mike
