• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hey guys been reading through the pages and there is heaps of useful info and extremely knowledgable people.
My L461 Varmint .222, is an awesome rifle and shot quite well. Recently I've been noticing good accurate loads capable of 1/2" in the rifle have been blowing out to just over the inch. This has led me down the path of rebarreling it. After much research I haven't come accross a solid answer to this question.

Is this action suitable for a 223 Ackley Improved? My brother has a T3 204 Ruger, these cases seem to feed fine in the action, I just wish to get that extra bit of velocity and own my first wildcat. I have considered the 222 mag and will head down this path is need be.

Thanks guys!
P.S sorry didn't realise where this was being posted, will try and repost it in the correct category.

todd: rebarreling might not be the answer. how many total rounds do you have through the rifle? and, what is your shooting and cleaning routine? i.e. how many shots do you take in a typical range session or field outing and when and how do you clean the bore?

With proper care a 222 barrel should give in excess of 5000 rounds before you see an accuracy fall off, unless you are a benchrester and measure groups in mm's. If you handload and have purchased powder of the same #, but from a different lot sometimes this can change your velocity & accuracy. I purchased some H380 that was a different lot number than the bottle I worked up a load with and had nearly a two hundred feet per second loss when I checked them thru a chronograph. The other, and probably most important is a dirty barrel. If you are not properly cleaning the bore, powder & copper fouling build up can ruin accuracy. Using a GOOD bore cleaner in the right manner & being obsessed with a clean bore is the best path to accuracy. Everybody has their own quirky ways to clean a bore and there are alot a good products out there now that make it a lot easier than it used to be. I clean my rifles every 5 to 10 shots when I am testing loads for accuracy. You will definitely see groups open up after 20 rounds without cleaning.
