• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

L461. Original barrel?

Hi all, first post on here.

A fellow sako fan and I have just been discussing whether or not the barrel is original to this wee gem that I've had for a few years now. There are no signs of open sights ever having been mounted on it, and there are no further markings on the underside. The barrel has been shortened and threaded for a suppressor. Overall the rifle is in fairly good condition, with just a few marks on the stock from wear and tear.

If anyone has any ideas on deciphering the markings on the barrel I'd be very grateful to hear them!

cheers,

Ed. (New Zealand)

Non-Sako barrel. Looks like British proofhouse stamps to me. Welcome to the club/forums !!!

Agreed. That barrel is heavier than a Sako barrel that would have been mounted with that sporter style stock. Could that British style proof have been applied in NZ?

Thanks for the replies guys. When I bought it the seller claimed it was the original. I was pretty sure it wasn't but went ahead as the price was still good, and perfect for what I was after. Hard to say if the barrel was fitted in NZ or pre-import, though I've done a bit of digging and the proof marks are definitely from London. It still handles and performs beautifully.
