• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Here are five (5) L46 deluxe rifles that I own. All have different engraving patterns on the floorplate/TG assembly and magazine plates.
From left to right:
1) .222Mag serial #53,xxx
2) .222 serial #49,xxx
3) .222 serial #45,xxx
4) .222 serial #46,xxx (this one is NIB)
5) .222 serial #47,xxx (all dinged up shooter and ACCURATE!)

Note all the differences between pine cone and acorn bottom metal. 3 of the 5 magazines are stamped with the caliber, 2 are not!

Real nice, I too have the same #4 engraving on mine and the stock is the Weatherby style. I do not know what the pattern is. In my imagination the engraving towqrds the front looks like a handshake. Maybe an important agreement at the time?? But like i said, a guess.

cl, I think you just came up with a good engraving pattern name for the Deluxe L46 you and DG have. What do you two think, you guys should have naming rights. "Handshake" or maybe "Sako Handshake"..... either one sounds good. I looked in my 1961 FI catalog (with the pool table cover) and the exact pattern for your rifles is shown on page 8.

I have a 37XXX with the same as your number 4 ,were they changed at different times or random?

I'm bumping this old thread so you can see that cl_leg got the credit for coming up with the "Handshake" name for the early Deluxe Vixen. Also you can see some variations of the Pine cone and Acorn engraving patterns. I love looking at the many different patterns. If I could just acquire an L61 with the Bear pattern....I think I would have all the early Finnbear patterns.
