• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Greetings, my first post....

Recently, I bought an L46 in .222, one with the 1-16 twist, and about which I learned a great deal from stonecreek and others regarding bullet stability/choice, etc. Thanks!

While procuring the rifle, a friend spotted a clip for sale on GB that he swore would fit my rifle and urged me to buy it. $55 delivered! However, when I get it, and while it sure looked exactly like what was in the gun, it would go in the clip cavity but it was just too tight. I had to pry it out. I did not put calipers or anything on it to see how it differed from the one in the gun (I don't have any), but clearly there is something funny. Is anyone familar with this matter? Is there another rifle that this clip will fit that's so very similar to the L46 but just different enough that this could happen?

Thanks to one and all of the many knowledgeable folks here for your thoughts.

Best,

Dennis

Hi Dennis and welcome -

As you may know L46 clips were produced both factory and aftermarket. Aftermarket usually won't have the caliber stamped on the bottom in like script. A few other differences, but that's the quickest identifier.

Factory clips are remarkably stout - designed to last a lifetime or two. That said, all the aftermarket clips I've used or examined seem pretty sturdy too, but maybe not quite as heavy a gauge sheetmetal.

I believe it's the correct clip from your description. While shorter and longer clips than the standard 222 were made during the life of the L46, I don't think that's what you have. The shorter version were around 1 7/8" L, and the longer 222 Mag clips wouldn't come close to fitting in the well...

My guess is that your clip has either been tweaked slightly, or was just manufactured slightly out of spec. I imagine it's going to take some very careful comparison to a correct fitting clip to identify just what the problem is. Doesn't sound like it's in the latch arraingement ?

Best luck, Dick

Thanks for your reply. This particular clip does have the caliber stamped on the bottom. Presently, I'm keen on seeing if something can be done so it becomes useful to me. I'll be having someone look it over to see.

Thanks again,

Dennis
