• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hi,
I just joined the group. I very recently acquired a L46 in .222. I have two questions, what rings do you recommend for the gun and is it possible to get a replacement butt plate for the gun? The butt plate on the gun is missing a piece below the bottom screw.
Thanks,
js22

I like Leupold ringmounts, particularly for lighter guns like the .222 (although they are plenty strong enough for heavy recoiling rounds.)

Sako buttplates come up fairly often on ebay. There are quite a few of them floating around since many were pulled off to replace with a pad. It may be difficult, however, to find an exact match for your L46, depending on which buttplate it had. However, a later buttplate should fit, it may just have different print/design pattern on it. Several guys here on SCC have a spare plate or two and might be talked into parting with one.

Hi JS -

Lots of decent mounts are available for your L46. In my opinion, you just can't beat the original Sako ringmounts. Medium height will clear most 40 -42 mm obj scopes. Prices have been bouncing around lately, but in the $50-100 should buy a nice set. Fleabay, GB, Auction Arms, online classifieds, gunshows all are good places to look. Maybe a member here has a set they'd let go. Just make sure the slots in the cap screws aren't too buggered up... Also, they should be marked 25.4 (1") on the bottom. There's a catagory down below on the site that has lots of discussion on the various ring set-ups.

Buttplates can be had from the same sources. Usually $25-35 will buy a pretty good one. I did find one at a local gunshow last fall for $5 - that was pretty sweet.

Welcome to the club - Dick

Dick,
Thanks. I have been watching all the sites for an original butt plate and just have not seen one come up. I'll keep looking!

I decided to go with the Leupold mounts. I think they'll do great. I have an newer butt plate with a different design that I think will fit, just really wanted to stay with an original - mid fifties gun.
Thanks!
