• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

I own a beautiful semi-custom rifle on a round-top Sako action which came with (unmounted) Conetrol rings. Seems like every year I find some other of my rifles which needs to go hunting while this one just stays there in the safe, bare of scope and lonely. Maybe if I live long enough the memory of the trauma of mounting Conetrols will fade from my dessicated brain and I'll decide to make a go at mounting them. That is, if the nursing home will allow their inmates to keep guns in their rooms.

There’s truth to that..I’ve had these around for quite some time. Each time I found myself in a situation that needed rings I would think, 🤔”hey , I have those Conetrols?” ….
🫨”Nah”
I’ve had a couple of sets over the years that came with rifles and sold them off.
Should’ve kept ‘em to give me something more to think about on rainy days 😆

I was thinking that too 😂
Not the .14 cal. stuff though !
You guys kill me...........again!
And to think I've a set of Leupold/Sako rings to trade, for some years now.

Seems sometimes........ok, many times......I'm my own worst enemy.

It's all in your head - it really isn't all that bad! I will admit it's a tedious, picky, frustrating job, but the results are worth it, as is the sense of satisfaction when you get the mounting finished, the crosshairs level, and the windage properly centered. In fact, I was delighted when I found this set of Conetrols in the shipping box with a Tikka M55 Deluxe I got off GB - the seller hadn't mentioned them and I don't think he knew what they were.

And there's this custom L461, where the Conetrols just add a nice luxury touch (also the rifle is a tack driver).

They also look good on a Krico.

That custom L461 is almost a twin to a custom L461 .221 Fireball I own right down to the Conetrols. Got it from a family member of the guy (long since deceased) who had it built and the only provenance I have on it is that they thought the gunsmith was from Bryan or College Station, Texas. It's hell on prairie dogs.

What caliber is your custom L461?

It is a .222, built by Creighton Audette, who was best known as a competitive shooter and builder of target rifles. It has a custom barrel stamped C.O.Audette. It's extremely accurate, as accurate as my L46 heavy barrel. Scope is a 4-12x Burris Mini AO, which I mounted. I don't recall if the bases were on the gun when I got it or if I got them from Conetrol. I believe Audette was from Vermont but cannot confirm.
