• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

A friend and I have finally made the time to go rifle hunting here in Va. Being from the piedmont region we are limited to shotgun for big game around here. We're looking at the WMA's, willdlife management areas. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? It sure can take the fun out your 2 day trip if you spend most of it just bumping around trying to find the water holes!!
Thanks if any of you guys and ladies can help.

If you don't have one, I'd recommend that you get the VA DGIF booklet that describes these WMA's from your local DGIF office. Take a look at the Chickahominy area. It's close to Williamsburg and covers a lot of ground. The Ragged Island area has some deer but it's mostly marshland. The Hog Island area is across the river from Williamsburg and has some deer hunting; it also has the Carlisle Tract but you might need a boat to get to that Tract. I believe that the Chickahominy Tract has an office where you might be able to get some info by phone.
Good luck,

OleDuk,
Thanks for the inoput but thats down here in the Piedmont. We've decided on the Rapidan WMA. I have told people for years now that like myself still-hunt and don't belong to a hunt club to use WMA's. I spoke with a fella at the region V office about the Powhatan WMA or the Rapidan WMA. He suggested the Rapidan. It butts up against the Shenandoa park and if we're lucky we'll see a bear. I still can't afford my Sako so I bought a used single shot .308 with a 3-9x40 scope on it. One day I'll have that Sako on my wall!!!
If any of you other guy's have any advice please feel free to post or email directly.
Thanks,

Sorry about that, feller. I, as an area native have always thought of this area as "Tidewater" and the "Piedmont" starting west of Richmond ("The Holy City")

One of my daughters is doing Va geography right now. I'm trying to remember. The fall line runs through Richmond. The area known as the Rocks. Down here in Colonial Heights on the Appomattox the fall line is just west of the new Rt. 1 Rt. 301 bridge. I've always considered the Tidewater area to be Norfolk , Suffolk,
Va Beach, Hampton Roads. Shucks we have to drive 2 hrs. just to play in the surf. The exact definition is tidewater- east of the fall line and the piedmont- west of the fall line.
Thanks,

yep. that sounds about right.

I do all my shooting in the piedmont.....basically the central part of the state in Powhatan and Cumberland counties. Also dable around close to where I work in King George, Westmoreland, Essex and Richmond counties as well. Good luck.
