• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Has anyone had any experience with these?

Looking at the HS Precision web site they make an item :
PSS056

$360.00

Fits: Sako 691 Right Hand, Long Action, Cheek Peice

Is this the same as a L61R AV action?

I have another rifle on a HS Stock and they are pretty impressive.

Regards

I've heard good things about these stocks. Before I fell in love with Sakos and swore off all others, I had a custom rifle made by Charlie Sisk one of the top customer rifle makers and he used the HS Precision stock frequently and gave the stock a strong endorsement.

Extractor, pretty sure the L691 has a different receiver diameter than the L61r and AV actions.

Also has a non integral recoil lug. Do they only make a stock to fit the L691 ?

You'd think they would cater for a rifle with a longer production history than 10 maybe 15 years.

I just bought a 338 WM Magnum research built on the Sako L691 action. I have'nt received it yet but have made a few inquires of the quality of their products. The rep I talked to said they now use Rem 700 actions an the rems need a lot more work in trueing up the action than the Sako's did. I never had a L691 Sako but had a L61R built for 264 Wm magnum by Pac-nor. If the 338 shoots as nice as the 264 I'll be happy. Can anyone tell me about the quality of the L691 action? Magnum research used the HS Precision stock and Kreider barrels and I can"t wait to try it out.

I don't know what you paid for it, but you've got a well designed rifle. The MR Sako's are one of the best bargains in the used gun market. As you stated, they had krieger barrels and HS stocks. The l691 actions were made with the same top profile as a M700, so you can use any standard remington scope bases or rails. I am a huge fan, though I have yet to find one in a caliber that I really need. Be sure to post up some pics. These are by all rights, a true custom rifle and used ones can sometimes be had for well under $1,000.00.

Although Magnum Research used a round Sako receiver, the bridge and receiver ring on a Sako are the same height, therefore unless the receiver bridge was specially modified to be lower like a Remington 700, I'm thinking that the two rifles take different bases. Anyone know for sure?

Can someone point me to a MR 691 Sako picture on this website? Wikipedia says they are "considered" slightly inferior to the L61R......any comments from someone who has handled both?

Hello, I bought it at an internet auction for $750. I have maybe ten Sako's beginnig with the L46 222. The only one that didn't fit my accuracy requirements was a 75 Hunter in 7MM STW. But one things for sure they handle the presure. The L691 came topped with a 4.5-14x50 leupold. My bonus for sure. But the shipping and buyers premium tacked on $160. Thanks Haydad
