• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Wow, what a great site!
I've got a chance to purchase a Sako L61 (Deluxe), 7MM, Finnbear with serial number 511XXX. The gun also has a bear etched into the bottom of the magazine. The gun also has the Buehler scope mounts and a Burris 3X9 scope.
The gun is in nearly new condition, a co-worker used it for 1 caribou hunt years ago. Can anyone give me an approximate value for this gun? My co-worker is willing to sell it to me for $700.
What year was this gun made?
When I put the gun on the scale at home, it weighed 10.5lbs. Is this too heavy to carry for Elk?

Any help would be appreciated.

Buy it. You can't go wrong with an L61R 7mm Sako. Yours is a late one, made in the late '70s or early '80s and probably imported by Stoeger.

The rifle & scope for $700 is a no-brainer. Buy it. Whether or not it is too heavy for an elk hunt is up to you. Perhaps take it on a local whitetail hunt where you do a lot of walking/climbing and see how you do with it.

The trend these days to carry light rifles with big fat cartridges can't make for better shooting and shot placement. A balance is needed between performance and weight.
