ok, I will admit I know nothing about Sako's. My dad was the expert. He is gone. Now I have this.

I reload and shoot and hunt a lot I am just not into Sako's. My purpose for finding out about this rifle I have is so I know what I have and can speak "ok" about it when I go to sell it.

any and all help will be appreciated. Ultimately I am looking to find out about the value of this piece, and yes I will sell it. It is a 218 Bee caliber and that is one I just don't shoot.

Here are some pictures any an all comments are welcome especially ones about what it's worth to sell.

Hope this is in the correct section.

I don't even know what "model" this is, or name or number or how do you call these rifles?

The rifle is a Sako L46 standard sporter. Riihimaki is the the town in Finland where it was produced. It appears to be in very fine condition and in a highly sought after caliber. Although none of my business, first please consider holding the rifle for yourself or someone else. It has all the attributes collectors would want. Perhaps Holy Grail status. Others here will show great interest, but you’ll likely never run into another one. Best of luck.

Your a lucky man to have such a rifle Darrell.

I can’t comment on its value in the US, but it will be high.

    It is an ‘L46’

Darrell…while you still have the opportunity, in between answering the many PM’s you’re going to be receiving…research and study about your L 46 Wing safety .218 Bee!
Meanwhile, take the rifle and that box of ammo to the range and give it a try. I’m almost positive that you will become way more into Sako’s!!
Your father has left you a very special rifle, one you will never find a replacement for later. An L 46 with a serial number as yours shows is very early in production..guessing 1950-52 tops! Heed to the advice of BigCountry!
    Seriously!
Valuations…your rifle is worth more money than any other rifle that has been displayed here for quite a while …my two cents

and Welcome to the Sako Collectors Club!

There can be a wide range of prices for a highly desirable Sako like yours. Let's just say that its current market value should be not in the hundreds but in the thousands (meaning more than one), but exactly how much it might bring depends on who sees it, how deep their pockets are, and perhaps what phase the moon is in. You could put it on Gunbroker to expose it to a wide audience, but the Gunbroker fees and commissions have gotten punishing, especially for a higher-dollar item. You'll get offers from several interested parties on this forum; there is no reason not to entertain several offers and so long as you negotiate in good faith with the potential buyers. Good luck in selling, and here's hoping both you and the eventual buyer both feel that you got a good deal.

Like many others here, I'd love to have it, so once you've settled on what you believe to be a fair target price feel free to send me a PM soliciting an offer.

By the way, if you settle on a firm price and want to advertise it for sale to the first to respond the rules of the forum require that you state that price with your offer to sell.

Personally, I'd keep it as an heirloom. .218 Bee ammo isn't everywhere, but it can be found.

    Cool rifle,

I'm a dyed in the wool A-series collector, but I'll confess, this stirs the 'want' pot a bit. Wonderful condition. It also makes me smile knowing the palpitations many members are feeling when they click on these pix. Good luck to all.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday!
If I had a dollar for the number of “holy shit’s” that have been muttered by our members as they scanned these photos, since this one came along, I could maybe afford to make an offer for it myself!
I hope he decides to keep it in the family so I can concentrate on my tasks at hand! I need another Sako like another hole in my head!

Sell it to the highest bidding ol' coot here and be done with it.

Know that it will probably get a new good home with someone that will take good care of it.

Then, in a couple of years, regret that you ever sold it.

Once you find out about the rarity and more about your fine piece, you will have nothing but regrets if you do let it go. Sounds like you do have other rifles so you do know about the aspects of shooting. If you are in too nothing but "black rifles", this Sako might not trip your trigger. So be it. Nothing but good luck to you.
