• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

New to the Sako world. Purchased a L46 in ,222 remington. It has 1" steel Luepold scope rings, but no scope. Front sight but no rear sight. Barrel has two sets of screws, one set immediately forward of the receiver, the other set further up the barrel.

All of that being said, recommendations for a reasonably priced scope using the 1" scope rings?

Welcome to the forum. It’s possible the barrel was drilled and taped to accept blocks for a long target style scope like an old Unertl or similar. Often there was no rear sight, as there was a peep sight available which works in conjunction with the front sight.

Maybe post some photos, perhaps it may shed some light.

Previous owner did have an Unertl scope on the Winchester Model 70 heavy barrel that I purchased at the same time as this Sako, looks like faint signs of the blocks as you indicated. He wasn't inclined to part with either of his Unertl scopes.

I'll get some photos and post to help.

It is a heavy barrel. I have several Leupold scopes, leaning that direction.

Previous owner gave a nod towards Arken scopes, but it appears they are 30mm or 34mm. He suggested the EPL-4 6-24x50 FFP which is a 30mm tube, currently on sale for $367.49. I did see some online reviews that questioned the build quality of Arken scopes.

Arken scopes
Not familiar, although I did skim through the website. Obviously the choice and decision is yours.

For me, I typically attempt to match the rifle with a scope of similar vintage, but that’s just me. It might seem mismatched with a 30MM or 34MM tube and really large objective, and knobs. If it was a modern precision rifle that’d be different, but your rifle is probably 60+\- years old. Again, just my opinion. Take care.

A Leupy in 6x or 8x fixed is a good combo for that round for shooting furry things! 4-12 x 40 would work nice for paper or fur. Pretty flat shooting out to 300 yrds

Additionally: the old Weaver K’s are affordable and functional. They look amazing on the little L46’s and were very popular in the 60’s.

I agree with the thought of a vintage weaver scope, found a weaver K12 with 1" tube on Ebay. Not really looking for the complicated knobs, etc. Just want to be able to see out to 250-300 yards, for paper or varmints. This rifle has been used for prairie dogs which we don't have here, but coyotes we do. 12x fixed should be plenty?

Leupold in 4-12 x 40 is one of the options I am looking at. Simple but variable is nice.
