An old friend of mine recently gave me his L46 .22 Hornet. Its a very sweet rifle and look forward to many days of hunting with it. Just getting used to it. Think I'll keep the Pecar 3X36 scope just to maintain the authenticity.

You are a lucky guy Peter. There are many on this site that would consider giving up their first born for a L46 hornet. If it was a 218 bee, they wouldn't have to think about it.
We would love to see pics when you get a chance. The old Pecar Berlin is just about perfect, so if it is clear and functions correctly I would leave it on as well.
    Cheers Colin.

Thanks guys, my own first born son instantly laid an inheritance claim to it. I'll get some good pics of it and post them here. It's an old rifle that has seen some use in the field, it's not been a "wall hanger". Is there somewhere I can trace its origins and date of manufacture through the serial number? The Pecar scope is fine and clear so it will stay on there for authenticities sake.

Yes Peter, records are available for the L46. Just go to the dropdown menu at the top of this page and select the Factory Records Service.

Looks like it could tell a few stories! What a terrific old rifle.

The manufacture date matching your birth year makes for a nice touch.
Just for your info from what I can see from your pics, the foresight hood is from a latter model Sako. The L46 hood had virticle ends, rather than angled/sloped ends as shown. I believe the angled hood came in years later with the model 75.

Thanks for that information Colin. The previous owner was a meticulous man with a very interesting history and background, so no doubt it does have some stories to tell.

Nice one. Good that the rear sight hasn't been removed, as a lot of them were back in the day to accommodate a larger scope.
