• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Last night I adjusted the trigger on the Forester 22-250. When I had it in the vice I rapped the bolt a few times with the rawhide mallet, it did not release the firing pin. I assembled the little Sokko and hit it on the butt stock with the palm of my hand to make sure it did not fire. Has anyone else ever done that?

The butt plate broke into 3 pieces. I went from mad to embarrased. The gun had been dropped at some point by a previous owner, there are several gouges in the stock. My best guess is the butt plate was cracked.

I called Beretta, Jack First, Numerich and several others today, no one has any. Does anyone here have an extra L579 butt plate? It definately does not have to be collector quality scratches are OK. The SN is 82xxx and is pre Garcia, I'm guessing about 1970 or 1971. The barrel under the stock has the Fire Arms Int name. If you don't have one, I will get the accuraglass busy and start watching Gunbroker and ebay. Thanks folks, D.

OK- D !!! Glad you're human. I just happen to have a somewhat decent one you are welcome to. Just drop me an address thru the private message link. I had a similar experience with a real nice unbroken one and a shooting vice that didn't work the way I wanted. It broke into three pieces also. Later, Mike

Thanks Wookie, I called Beretta, they referred me to a fiberglass stock making company, no luck. I'll email Sako direct.

Buttplates, unlike sight hoods and original pads, are not that hard to find. Lots of them were removed to replace with a pad, so many are laying around in drawers or whatnot boxes. You will find them from time to time on ebay.

If Mike's offer doesn't work out for some reason, drop me a PM and I'll see if there is anything in my inventory that would be worth using.

If the stock is in that condition, youmight consider putting a "no name" plastic butt plate on it, or even a thin rubber recoil pad.

After adjusting any trigger, it is important to slam the bolt shut three or four times on an empty chamber with the safety off. If the firing pin moves forward, you need to increase the weight of pull screw.

Thanks Sakonut. I did the bolt slamming along with hitting the back of the bolt with a rawhide hammer and the old hard rapp with the meaty part of my hand. It did not fire, but the plastic butt plate was not up to my hand rapp. I did find a new butt plate (or it found me) which will keep the lil' Forester lookin good. I use my hand because I did break one buttplate hitting the floor.
