• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

FN Sako .270

Sako-addicted
This started in another thread, so I figured I’d get it where it belongs. This is off an FN Sako in .270. I bought the rifle in a pawn shop for less than $450. (trying to educate staff on its origins was pointless in dealing with know it alls - anyone been there?)

So I’m at like 90% in the refinishing process. At @paulsonconstruction suggestion, (thank you) I’m definitely going to repoint the checkering, then complete the process to a slightly more subtle matte finish. Still considering if this is in my wheelhouse. One minor bit of disappointment is there is some staining which I cannot sand away in the forearm. Photo 3 shows a small stain on the left side. There are a couple more.

I’m going to travel quite a bit over the next several weeks, so I’m going to set this project aside for a while.

Nice piece of wood there - better than most of the FN-Sakos. Personally, I'd go for low-gloss or satin rather than matte, but that's a fine distinction and a matter of personal taste. The workmanship looks good so far and I look forward to the final result.

Did you ever get back to finishing this stock? Some Art's French Red stain/filler might make any blemishes or "stains" become much less noticeable. Just curious how things are going.

Thanks for reaching out. No not yet. We’ve been traveling (all summer) and now focusing on various hunting opportunities. I wrote down the Art’s product. I plan to get back to the workbench soon, once the real wet season here in Oregon sets in. Please take care.
