• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I purchased a Sako Finnbear Deluxe in 338 Win. Mag. a couple years ago at an estate auction. Its a LH model and in like new condition. Its marked Sako AV LH with Ser. # 6319xx. Is this L61R action? Year of manufacture? I'm considering an Alaska hunt and concerned about pressure point stock inlet causing POI problem in wet weather. Does anyone know where I could get LH synthetic stock for this one time use? I think I stole the gun at $450 and can afford a synthetic stock if available.

Chris,

The gun was likely made in 1988 or 1989 and it is not a L61 action but an AV. Not much difference between the two actions, the AV's are my favorite. Due too the longer tang on the AV, they are not interchangeable.

If you want the exact duplicate of the outstanding Hunter stock in a material that will definitly not change the point of impact, you have two options: Have McMillan make you one, and they will make a lefty, or try to find a lefty AV laminate which may be next to impossible; not even sure if they cut left handed laminates. McMillan's are great, but @ $400+ a bit pricey.

Another option may be to have a good gunsmith free float the barrel, glass bed the entire action top and bottom, the first 1-2" of the barrel by the action, then cut a channel almost the whole length of the stock and fill it with araglass and re-seal with polyurathane any exposed wood. This would likely prevent most if not all stock swelling, point of impact change, etc.

By the way, I have a .338 laminate AV in it's a great rifle.

Dave:

Thanks again for the info. I figured about late 80's for date of manufacture. I may look into the McMillan stock price; however I can buy an entire rifle in SS/Syn. for a little more!!!
