• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Finnbear Action vs. A III Action

Aloha all,

This may be another question for Jim Stanley:

What is(are) the difference(s) between the Finnbear action and the A III action?

My A III was imported by Stoeger; my Finnbear was imported by Garcia. My A III is a beautiful Deluxe .300 Win Mag. and my Finnbear is a beautiful dark chocolate Sporter (or Standard) in 7mm Rem. Mag.

I can see the stock differences easily, what are the action differences?

All of the long-action Sakos were called "Finnbear" up through the AV model (just as the short actions were "Vixens" and the medium actions were "Foresters"). Your Garcia-imported Finnbear is an L-61R action. Your Stoeger-imported .300 is also a Finnbear and has the A III action.

The differences in the actions are minor. The early "pre-Garcia" L61R actions had a third locking lug at the rear of the bolt opposite the bolt handle. This "safety" lug was dropped soon after Garcia took over importing Sakos and was absent for the remainder of the L61R production.. The two-lug L61R's and the AIII's differ mostly in the A III having a shrouded cocking piece. But, hold on: Some very late L61R actions also had the shrouded cocking piece. I have a Stoeger-imported .300 Winchester that has an L61R action with such a shrouded cocking piece.

Insofar as I am aware, all parts are interchagable between the two-lug L61R and the A III. Curiously, the AV was virutually identical to the A III but had a slightly longer tang.

Aloha Stonecreekranch,

That answer was fabulous! If the barrel contours of the 7mm and the 300 Win Mag are identical (I don't know that they are), theorethically then, the stocks would be interchangeable, is that correct? Not that I want to screw them up, I'm just trying to understand the similarities and differences.

But, you answered my question and then some. It was also a big help to understand how the AV fits into the picture.

Did the deletion of the rear safety lug affect the smoothness of the action?

Thanks again,
