• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Figure this one out...........PLEASE

I recently purchased a Beretta model 502S featherweight chambered in 30-06. When I purchased it, it still had the factory iron sights on it, which I was told was a rare item. From what I understand it was imported to the states in 1987. The action bears a striking resemblance to the Sako L61R. The previous owner told me this rifle was produced for Beretta by Sako, however the only marking on the barreled action that references Sako in any way is on the trigger mechanism and all it says is FINLAND. The serial # is 573XXX, I have inquired about this rifle to Beretta and never recieved a reply. I realize that Beretta eventually purchased Sako, but from what I understand that wasn't until the early '90s. I bought a piece of highly figured Bastogne walnut and had it roughed in and semi inlet by Wenig gunstock. The original stock is a nicely figured piece of English, but I wanted a little bit more weight in the gun to help reduce recoil. I'm working on finishing the new stock now. At that time one of Wenig's master stockmakers showed a little more than a casual interest in the gun and told me he had heard about these guns but had never seen one. does anyone out there know anything about this rifle and it's possible kinship to Sako???? Any information would be appreciated...........................Thanx.

Sako supplied L-series actions to a variety of manufacturers like H&R;, Browning, Colt and obviously, Beretta. You have a Sako L61R action, but probably with Beretta barrel and stock (this is what Browning did). Not too many of these guns around, and glad you found one. Seems to me that the standard 502 is more common, when you can locate one, and this model is without sights. Please let us know how it shoots.

Thanx for the information DeerGoose. It may be a little while before I can sit down and do any serious work with this rifle, my work schedule is going to keep me out of town for the next six weeks or so. I'll let you know how it shoots after I get a chance to do some bench work...........okfirebob1958.
