My son gave me a nice Finnbear in 30-06 for Father's Day. Ser# begins with 513XXX, it is a Garcia, my research so far leads me to believe the manufacture date would be either late '75 or early to mid '76. I'd welcome members opinions as to how close I am.

I'd say anywhere from 74 to 77, so your guess is as good as any. Sako did not build rifles in sequential order with the serial numbers, so any extrapolation is useless. The factory records we have only go up to # 48900, so there is no way you can confirm it's made on date, unless you have the hang tag that came with the rifle.

Sako jumped serial numbers to the 500,000's for the L61R series circa late 1974, but as Paulson says, they did not number their rifles sequentially, so it is not possible to say anything other than that your rifle is from sometime in the mid-197o's.
