• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I am trying to use a weaver base with rings on a 243 for a varmit scope(50mm).But my elevation is off really bad.Are the originals offset to accomodate a difference on the sako reciever?Do i need to go back with the original base with a set of 30mm sako/leuplod/etc rings???

When you mention Weaver bases & Sako in the same sentence forum members will cringe. To save yourself a lot of time & frustration remove the Weaver bases as quickly as possible & throw them in the nearest trash can. Then go buy a set of quality ring mounts of the proper height for your large objective diameter and you will be set to go. Sako, Leupold, Warne, Talley all make good ring mounts. You just have to figure out what height you need. I hope someone didn't drill holes in your dovetails & mutilate another beautiful Sako.

No holes were drilled, just tapered slide on,will take your advice.Should i use my original base front and rear and get the twist in ring with windage ring? I have seen some rings that clamp directly to the tapers is this just as good??thanks

broodacom,
If you are talking about the Sako Optilock direct ring mounts to the dove tails, they are very good. Leupold also makes a direct ring/mount. Many people use them and they are cheaper than the Optilock.

Boodacom- In the event you are talking about the leupold or redfield bases that are pounded on, those are very good. You can get the proper height rings that turn in front and clamp on rear. Just don't use the tightening screws that come on the bases. I don't use the pound ons anymore, but when I did, I got good accuracy from them and scopes were easy to mount. I will add that I put one 50mm scope on a Sako once and it looked ridiculous to me, so I took it off and put a 40 back on. Not all mounts that I like will work with all scopes. But I can find a mount out of the ones I like that will do the job well. I also like to keep the scopes as low as possible.

I use Sako vintage mounts on most. I also have the older Leupold senior mounts and rings on two rifles. I have used Millets and Redfields. Probably like the one piece Leupolds for ease, the best. Just don't have a scope now, that requires those. Millets are probably the best of the underated mounts, They are nice looking to boot. If you are using a 30mm scope, you will not find "vintage" sako rings for it. All the others do come in 30mm. You will also need high rings for the two piece systems in 30mm with 50mm objective. -Misako
