I was wondering if anyone with an early 60s (not sure if it changed as years went by) l579 can tell me what the minimum needed scope tube length has to be to be able to mount a scope with vintage split ring Sako mounts? I have one in 308 on the way and I have a Leupold 2-7x33 sitting around I'm considering putting on but it's on the shorter side.

    Thanks

I have a similar set up - scope and all. The scope should have 5.6” of overall mounting space. The length between the dovetails on mine is 2.8”. Mine is set up at 5” outside of ring to outside of ring. That leaves .6” of flexibility on the maintube. I could also move the front ring rearward to create additional spacing if desired. The rear ring cannot move forward as it has the post in place. Bottom line, you should have no problem mounting original ringmounts and the Leupold you currently have. Hope this helps.
